Courses through A-kasse

If you are unemployed and a member of an A-kasse, you are generally entitled to 6 weeks of job-focused training. However, your educational background determines if you qualify.
Who can apply?
You can apply if you are receiving unemployment benefits (dagpenge) and you are:
  • Unskilled.
  • Skilled (trained in a specific trade).
  • Have both a vocational and a short higher education.

When to apply?
You can apply 5 weeks after your first day of unemployment. The deadline depends on your age:
  • Over 25 years old: You must finish the course within the first 9 months of unemployment.
  • Under 25 years old: You must finish the course within the first 6 months of unemployment.
Note: If you start a course while you are still working (during your notice period), you can continue for up to 6 weeks after becoming unemployed, provided the course is on the National Positive List.

How to choose a course

You must choose from the National Positive List.
  • All 6 weeks of training must stay within the same professional group (e.g., if you choose a leadership course, all modules must be about leadership).
  • Your A-kasse must approve the course and your application.
We can help you (Open Guidance)
On the first Friday of every month, we hold "Open Guidance" sessions. We can help you:
  1. Find the right courses.
  2. Create a personal education plan.
  3. Fill out the necessary forms (AR237) for your A-kasse.

Important Rules During the Course

Approval: You can only start the course once your A-kasse and Jobcenter have approved your application.
  • Invitations: You will receive an invitation in your e-Boks at least one week before the start.
  • Benefits: You still receive your unemployment benefits during the course, and you do not have to apply for jobs while you are studying.

Travel Allowance (Kørselsgodtgørelse)
If you travel more than 24 km per day (total) to reach the training center, you can apply for travel money.
  • The form: Get the "Application for Travel Allowance" at our reception in Hillerød or print it online.
  • The process: On your last day of class, have our reception sign the form to confirm you attended. Then, send it to your A-kasse.
  • Deadline: You must apply no later than 4 months after the course ends.
